Little Boy Blue

Making a difference one thank you at a time!

October 13, 2016
There's this adorable little boy in the local area who has been showing appreciation to law enforcement officers everywhere he goes! Little Boy Blue is 2 1/2 years old and what he's doing is so sweet and special. He's been handing out "thank you cards" to law enforcement officers everywhere he goes. Here's a recent interview with his mom.
  • When did you start passing out thank you cards? Many people believe that we started passing them out after the tragic Dallas incident, but that's actually not true. We started back in 2015.
  • Why did you start passing out the cards? We believe it's important to have a servant's heart and what better way to serve others than to serve those who serve us? We need to show our gratitude to those who protect our community. They do a very thankless job.
  • Does Little Boy Blue (Aiden) actually enjoy passing out the cards? Yes, he does. He loves all things police. He will usually come up to me and dig in my purse for a thank you card whenever he sees an officer in uniform. He usually exchanges cards for high fives and stickers (he has a lot of stickers!).
  • Do you always have the cards with you? Just about always. I try to keep a huge pile in my car and some in my purse at all times.
  • Which agencies have been recipients of the thank you cards? A few, off the top of my head, would be: Alameda County Sheriff's office, San Leandro Police, Hayward Police, Fremont Police, Newark Police, BART Police, Union City Police, San Francisco Sheriff's office, San Francisco Police, Daly City Police, San Jose Police, Santa Clara Sheriff's office, San Mateo County Sheriff's office, San Mateo Police, Foster City, Alameda Police, Oakland Police, Livermore Police, Anaheim Police, Las Vegas Metro Police and even the Mexican Federal Police.
  • Would you support Little Boy Blue if he grew up wanting to be a police officer? We would support him in anything God has planned for him.
  • Do you believe this gesture is making a difference? Yes, we do. It may not be changing the world by leaps and bounds, but even if for a split second it makes someone smile, that's what is important. What's even more surprising is when we've run into officers more than once and they tell us they are so grateful for the thank you card and that they still have it up in their locker or office. That's very touching.
  • How did Aiden get the name Little Boy Blue? A journalist actually dubbed him that name.
  • How long do you plan on doing this? Good question. We haven't actually ever thought of an "end time," because we will always be grateful for those in blue. But if we ever get to the point where Aiden no longer wants to pass out thank you cards, we'll respect his wishes.
  • Does Little Boy Blue have any social media accounts? Yes. You can find him on Facebook and Instagram. @LittleBoyBlueLE
