Mother's Day is Sunday so you'll find some Mom's Day recipes and a craft to help the kids with for grandma or email to dad to get busy with the kids. And don't miss the articles as well!

Kiss My Acronym - Boycotting Labels

I was recently in a room full of women when the initial introductions and small chat began. Inevitably I was asked by someone, "What do you do?"

I get the nervous tummy anytime someone even begins the topic because it is then that I need to instantaneously decide if my soap box will put a damper on the evening. Sometimes the soap box is cumbersome. Big and bulky and certainly not worthy of a situation. Other times it fits well.

Mother's Day Handprint Flower Pot

Moms love flowers and what better way to show mom how much you love her than with this wonderful homemade present for Mom on Mother's Day. For the past couple years my kids have made these handprint flower pots for both of their grandmothers on Mother's Day.

Materials:

  • Clay flower pot
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Pencil
  • Clear acrylic sealer in gloss or matte

Optional materials:

  • Potting Soil
  • Flowers

First, trace your child's hands onto the flower pot. Then help your child paint the flower pot and hand prints ...


Crunchy Raisin French Toast

Stuffed with strawberries and cream cheese!

Crunchy french toast, fresh strawberries and cream cheese, make a great treat for any mom on Mother's Day!

Ingredients:
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 slices cinnamon raisin bread
  • 2 cups crushed cereal flakes (corn, bran, etc) - We used Kashi 7 Whole Grain Flakes
  • 1 cup whipped cream cheese
  • 1 cup diced fresh strawberries
  • 2 tsp powdered sugar
  • Oil
Directions:

Crack eggs into medium size shallow bowl, beat lightly with a fork. Add milk and vanilla and stir well.

The perfect sweet treat to make for a special mom on Mother's Day!

Ingredients:
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract - divided
  • 8 slices whole grain bread bread
  • 2 bananas, sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon dark rum or rum extract - optional
  • powdered sugar
  • oil

Directions:

Tweens, 10-12 years old, this is for you! Learn how to draw manga faces and expressions and much more. Basic drawing skills are helpful, but not required. Instructional materials will be provided and are yours to keep. Registration is required and starts on May 16th. Limited space available!

Bookmobile New Fall/Winter Schedule!

The Alameda County Library Bookmobile is a library on wheels with books, magazines, music CDs, CDROMs, videos, DVDs and books on cassette and CD for children, teens, and adults. The Bookmobile visits schools and neighborhoods once every two weeks. Check the schedule below for dates and times.

Library cards may be obtained on the Bookmobile. Library materials are checked out for two weeks and may be returned to the Bookmobile or to any branch of the Alameda County Library.
