Description
In this activity, we'll be making a simplified paper-only version of the traditional "bangpae yeon" kite design which has been used in Korea for centuries. Using paper, scissors and string, we'll put it together and try flying it -- and color in the horangi (tiger) depicted on it. This design is based on a real historical kite with a tiger image, and is easy to make for kids ~5 years and older. Learning, practicing, and re-interpreting traditional crafts is a way to develop a closer and richer relationship with one's ancestors, and plays an important role in artist Jeffrey Yoo Warren's practice.
