Join us at Centerville Library for a special author event! Pamela Adler, author of the chapter book "Maddy and Mia: Tripaw Tales" will do a reading and, as an added bonus, readers can meet Mia--the dog that inspired this tale!

Maddy and Mia: Tripaw Tales
The family poodle has a litter of puppies, and Maddy's parents say that she can choose one for her very own. Maddy instantly falls in love with the runt of the litter, who was born with only three legs. Little Mia becomes Maddy's constant companion. When Finn and his family move in across the street, he joins Maddy and Mia on many of their adventures. Together, they learn the value of courage, acceptance, and friendship.

Mia's Story

Mia was born in November 2010 as part of a litter of pure-bred toy poodles. When the breeder realized that Mia’s left front leg was not completely formed, he concluded he couldn’t sell her because she wasn’t “perfect.” So, he decided to put her “on display” at a friend’s grooming salon and give Mia away to anyone who would take her. The instant we saw her, we knew we had to save her.

From the moment we brought Mia home, she was the center of attention. We watched in amazement as she fearlessly learned how to walk, run, play with our other dogs and navigate stairs. When she stumbled or fell, she got right back up. For Mia’s first Valentine’s Day, our groomer colored her ears and tail a brilliant pink. The response from everyone who saw her was so positive that Mia has been our “pinky girl” ever since.

In 2018, Pamela decided to pursue a dream she’d had for many years — to write a children’s book. As a witness to the happiness Mia brought to so many people with her courage and sweet disposition, Pamela didn’t have to look very far to find the inspiration for her book. On June 3, 2020, her dream became a reality when Maddy and Mia: TriPaw Tales was released.

Mia lives with three other poodles, one Maltese and five cats. She loves to take walks in her stroller and play with her favorite squeaky toys. In her spare time, Mia loves to go shopping, supervise the planting of flowers in the garden, and take long naps.
