Looking for a fun family adventure in San Diego? Our family visited San Diego over Thanksgiving weekend and, with the gorgeous sunny weather, decided to book an excursion on the amphibious bus with SEAL City Tours—easily one of the highlights of our trip!

SEAL City Tours hosted our family as part of this review. All views and opinions expressed here are our own.

Our tour began at Seaport Village, where a friendly driver, Captain Ed, and enthusiastic guide, JJ, welcomed everyone aboard. Was it a bus? Was it a boat? Luckily for us, it was both! Our group included everyone from a teenager to an 80-year-old, and this experience was truly fun for all ages.

As we made our way from Seaport Village to the marina, our guide shared fascinating history and fun facts about the area. (We drove right by the restaurant that was used for the bar scenes - Great Balls of Fire memories - in Top Gun!) Then came the first big moment: driving straight into the water as our bus transformed into a boat! It was such a unique and exciting experience.

Out on the bay, we cruised over to see more sea lions than we could count—our other major highlight, and lots of birds. As you can see from our photos, they were just as relaxed and happy as we were.

The tour continued with interesting insights about San Diego Bay, the harbor, and Coronado Island, all while we enjoyed perfect weather and beautiful views. Before long, it was time to shift back into “bus mode” as we drove right up the launch ramp and headed back toward Seaport Village, soaking in more scenery and local history along the way.

If you’re planning a trip to San Diego and looking for something unique and family-friendly, we highly recommend SEAL City Tours. They offer two convenient departure locations: one between the cruise ship terminal and the USS Midway, and another just a short stroll away at Seaport Village.

Some SEAL City Tours FAQs:

  • The tour lasts about 100 minutes.
  • Arrive to the departure location early to check in and line up to board.
  • You will not get wet.

Mac KID Tips:

  • Bring a sweatshirt - it was much cooler on the water than land.
  • Make sure to allow extra time for parking.
