Whoosh! Swoosh! Wow! These joyful shrieks will be heard at the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose, with the opening of Amazing AirMaze, a new, permanent STEM exhibit exploring the power of air. Ticket giveaway coming soon!
This large, open-ended pneumatic air exhibit with lime green and mango orange panels invites experimentation, testing, and manipulating to discover how fast different objects travel through the maze of curvy, clear tubes.
Amazing AirMaze encourages children and adults to play together and test theories by putting a variety of colorful objects in the air tubes and manipulating the diverting levers to control airflow and pressure. This sensory exhibit, sponsored by CEFCU, appeals to a range of abilities and encourages eye and hand coordination, spatial skills, visual tracking, and sequencing while encouraging children to think like scientists and engineers.
The Amazing AirMaze is installed with MERV 15 filters in the system’s blower boxes to meet safety standards. The museum continues to prioritize visitor and staff safety with attendance caps, online reservations for contactless ticketing, plexiglass shields at admissions for staff and visitors, a mask requirement for anyone age two or older, and robust cleaning and disinfecting procedures throughout the day and during the hour break between play sessions. Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose:
With over 150 interactive exhibits and programs, the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose is one of the largest museums of its kind in the nation. Since opening its doors in 1990, the award-winning museum has welcomed nearly 10 million visitors and offers new exhibits each year that respond to children's diverse educational needs. In 2017, Bill’s Backyard: Bridge to Nature opened, doubling the museum’s exhibit space with a half-acre of nature exploration and science and environmental education. The striking 52,000 square foot purple building was designed by Mexico City-based architect Ricardo Legorreta. Encompassing the broad themes of community, connections, and creativity, hands-on exhibits invite self-directed, open-ended explorations.
