Properly disposing of unused prescription medications is an important step in preventing contamination of the environment as well as preventing prescription drug abuse. The best way to dispose of most medications is at a take-back site.

Every year the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) hosts National Prescription Drug Take Back Day where anyone can drop off their unused medications to be properly disposed of. This year's Take Back Day is April 24. Some police stations in our area are hosting an event, while many others have drop boxes available year-round.

To see a list of locations participating in the event, or to find a regularly available dropbox, use the Collection Site Locator search tool at https://takebackday.dea.gov/.
