Happy Family Cooking Party

April 3, 2017

Macaroni Kid Fremont hosted a Happy Family Cooking Party for several of our subscribers and their families. During the party, we sampled some Happy Family products, the kids made some of the recipes and enjoyed play time in the gym at Pacific West Gymnastics. You can see all of the photos from our party here.

During our Happy Family sampling, we got to try out many of their snack products:

  • Superfood Puffs: Gluten-free, melt-in-mouth snack for little ones. Happy Family has the only baby snacks with added B vitamins and calcium, as well as vitamin D, and the only Puff with choline for brain and eye development. Our littlest guests really enjoyed the Puffs. Parents love that they melt-in-their-mouth, so there's no worry of choking. Babies and toddlers can practice self-feeding while eating a snack we don't have to feel bad about serving them.
  • Happy Baby Yogis: Freeze-dried yogurt drops with probiotics to support immunity and digestive health. They are made with wholesome yogurt and organic fruit.
  • Happy Baby Teethers: Perfect for babies since they dissolve easily. They are made with jasmine rice flour, a touch of organic fruits and vegetables and contain no artificial flavors. Great for babies who are teething.
  • Fiber & Protein Soft-baked Oat Bars: Fiber to help your tot's digestion regular, protein and whole grains. Each bar contains 4 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein.
  • Multi-Grain Alphabet Snacks: Made with organic buckwheat flour, flax seeds and 160mg of Omega 3 (ALA) so you can feel good about your little one snacking on something that's actually good for them. AND they taste REALLY good.
  • Puffed Ancient Grain Dino Snacks: Baked with ancient grains, real organic cheddar cheese, organic tomatoes and basil, AND they are adorable puffed Brontosaurus'. A nutritious snack that delivers 25 mg of choline and 5 grams of whole grains from quinoa, amaranth and other grains.
  • Love My Veggies Chickpea Straws: Contain over 75% veggies per serving, gluten-free and they come conveniently packed in 5 single serving bags to make them perfect for on-the-go snacking.
  • Baby Puree/Meal Pouches: Stage 1 for ages 4 months and older feature two single ingredient flavors - prunes and mangos, while Stage 2 for ages 6 months and older feature unique fruits and veggies combined to introduce baby to new flavors and textures. Stage 2 Hearty Meals boast a thicker texture with wholesome quinoa, veggies, and fruits while Stage 2 Granola Meals feature gluten-free grains, fruits and veggies.
  • Toddler Pouches: Happy Tot Fiber & Protein pouches are a delicious mix of organic fruits and veggies that are optimized with the added nutrients energetic toddlers need - 3 grams of protein for their growing bodies and 3 grams of fiber to support digestive health. Love My Veggies pouches make it easier than ever to get your little ones to eat veggies - each containing a full serving of organic, wholesome veggies, plus yummy organic fruits.

In addition to all of the fun snacks we got to try, we helped the kids prepare several recipes from the Happy Family Organic Superfoods Cookbook for Baby & Toddler. They were all a great hit and got some healthy food into their little bodies.

Make Your Own Snack Mix: We tweaked the two snack mix recipes and put the choices out for kids to make their own unique snack mix to enjoy. Our assortment included raisins, dried cranberries, dehydrated snap peas, chocolate chips, dried cereal, pretzels and Pirate's Booty. This is a clever way to get your child to sample new foods - offer them up as a choice to add to their own snack mix. You'll be surprised at what most kids will actually try.

Mixed Melon, Turkey and Cheese Kabobs: Cheddar cheese cubes, cubed watermelon and cantaloupe and sliced turkey. You could use traditional kabob sticks, but we used toothpicks - perfect for little fingers. Allow the kids to put their own kabobs together by adding the fruits, cheese and meat onto the toothpick. In addition to assembling a yummy, healthy snack, your little one will be building their small motor in their hands. You can easily substitute any fruits, firm tofu for vegetarians or other meats like ham.

Sunflower Seed Butter, Banana, Flaxseed & Maple Wraps: We tweaked this one a bit as we did not have any nut allergies, so we used creamy Peanut Butter. The kids spread peanut butter on a whole wheat tortilla, sliced some banana to add, sprinkled some ground flaxseed over the bananas and we subbed honey for the syrup. Heated them a few minutes on a griddle and sliced into wedges. Not only did the kids really enjoy making these, they were yummy and would make a healthy lunch or snack for all ages.

White Bean and Basil Dip: This was a super easy dip to make and packed full of protein and fiber. Perfect for kids since they all seem to love dipping! With just Cannellini Beans (white kidney beans), basil and olive oil, blended in food processor, you have a super easy dip for veggies, crackers and more. I actually subbed spinach for the basil which tasted fine. My 8 year old who claims she doesn't like spinach, happily ate this dip with her carrots and went back for more. This would totally be an easy-to-make addition for their lunch box.

As a mom to four and a child care provider to so many more over 20 years, I have had a lot of experience feeding kids - picky kids, easy eater kids, etc. and I still found the cookbook full of so many great ideas and options. The baby purees were creative and unique, the smoothies sounded yummy and full of healthy foods, and the other snacks and recipes all sounded great and would make all different types of eaters happy and help get our kids eating healthier foods. And I love that there are many that would please the whole family, not just your toddler.

Thanks to Happy Family for putting out some great snacking options for toddlers and little ones. It's nice to know the Happy Family brand puts a lot of thought into incorporating superfoods into their pre-packaged snacks and pouches.
