GIVEAWAY! The Little Ice Rink and the Best Lil' Porkhouse!

By Jennifer Hill ~ Sponsored Content December 18, 2014
A few weekends ago my family was invited to check out The Little Ice Rink and a new restaurant, Best Lil' Porkhouse, at the Alameda South Shore Center in Alameda. Located at 523 S. Shore Center W, it took us under 30 minutes to get there - well worth it for the fun afternoon my family enjoyed!

We started with ice skating at The Little Ice Rink - found in the parking lot near PetCo - the kids loved ice skating outdoors. For the younger ones still learning (or not quite ready to learn) to skate, you can find a "Bobby," a bright orange plastic seal that kids can push or sit on for a ride while someone else pushes it along. Bobby helps the skater balance and have a great time while doing so.

The rink is 4100 square feet and was not crowded at all. They have a nice range of skating time options, as well as Panera Bread on-site selling coffee, hot chocolate and cookies Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It's $10 for kids 8 and under and $15 for anyone 9 and over. They offer a 10% discount for groups of 10 or more, so grab some friends and go! They also offer a discount if you bring your own skates. On that note, we were all happy to see the quality of rental skates. They have the kind without laces which made us all happy and getting them on much easier! The Little Ice Rink is open through January 19, 2015, so go check them out soon!

After skating, we went to check out the new restaurant, Best Lil' Porkhouse. What a fun menu! With names like "Hog Heaven", "This Lil' Piggy Had Roast Beef", "I Smell Bacon" and "When Pigs Fly" you'll have fun browsing the menu while deciding what to eat. We started with the nachos with kettle chips - they were so yummy! We also tried the ribs, a french dip sandwich, a bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwich. For our sides, we tried the fried okra, sweet potato tots, onion rings and mac 'n' cheese. Everything was delicious and very unique.

In addition to the great food, they also had a table full of games to enjoy while waiting for your food. Our kids loved that! And hubby and I enjoyed getting a chance to actually talk while the kids were playing together. We also played a game as a family. You can make reservations for their Alameda location on the website.
