Fun at Swim Lessons

By Scott Schroder August 28, 2014
Every now and again we hear from a concerned parent that their child is playing too much during swim lessons. It's understandable that their child is only with us for 30-minutes at a time and swim lessons can be an expensive time to "play" in the water.

The teachers at Happy Fish understand the concerns parents have about work vs. play, and we try and strike a balance and incorporate "Purposeful Play" in each and every lesson. We understand that "play" is a child's first language. Students respond more quickly to funny voices, silly faces, goofy games and pool toys than a lesson focusing on "work". If we want to connect to, earn trust with and eventually teach a child, then we must do it in a playful way. And while it might look like we are playing too much during swim lessons, in the long run your child will learn more and retain more when they learn a new skill in their first language, "play".

Happy Fish Swim School is an indoor, heated swim lesson facility offering 30-minute swim lessons all year long. We have an excellent staff who genuinely care about their students.
